Stockholm-based mezzo soprano Karin Osbeck (born in 1993) started taking singing lessons at thirteen, after having tried the guitar for some time. The teacher probably knew it wasn’t for her, so he asked if she wanted to sing instead. Karin was so exhilirated that she praticed for two hours when she came home.

Since then, Karin Osbeck has gone a straight path towards becoming a professional opera singer. After high school she was accepted to the pre-college programme for singers and pianists in the quaint little town Vadstena, a famous school focused lieder and art song. Directly after finishing her studies there she was accepted to The College of Opera in Stockholm, where she has studied with mezzo soprano Ulrika Tenstam.

In school she has performed the role of Angelina in La Cenerentola, Nancy in Albert Herring and several scenes from Pelléas et Mélisande as Mélisande (at Wermland Opera in Karlstad). She had an internship at The Royal Opera House in Stockholm where she performed the role of The Page in Salome.

In the summer of 2015 Karin Osbeck had the great opportunity to be a scholarship holder at Vadstena-Akademien. She participated in a newly commissioned work, an opera called Son of Heaven by composer Moto Osada and librettist Kerstin Perski.

Karin graduated from the bachelor programme at The College of Opera in June this year, and in the fall of 2017 she will debut at The Royal Opera House in Stockholm as Tisbe in La Cenerentola.

Karin Osbeck has received many scholarships and awards, among them the prestigious Jenny Lind scholarship and the competition De Unges Konsert, which includes a concert with Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra.
